Great Outdoors Visits San Onofre
The Orange County/Long Beach Chapter of Great Outdoors is hosting a camping trip to San Mateo Campgrounds at San Onofre State Beach on Valentine’s Day Weekend from Feb. 12-14.
The group will camping about 1.5 miles north of the beach in a wide coastal canyon next to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, just up from the Trestles Bridge beach. There are seven spaces reserved, each with long driveways to accomodate RV parking. All campsites include a fire pit and picnic table. Hookup sites are available with electricity and water for those traveling in an RV. There are hot indoor showers and flush toilets.
The campgrounds are just south of San Clemente and are within hiking distance of San Clemente State Park. Along the beach, it is about 4.5 miles to downtown and the pier. San Mateo creek flows just east of the campground outward toward the ocean creating key wetlands habitats which host some rare species.
The cost of the trip is about $30-$35 for those in tents, or $50-$55 for those in an RV. Parking fees are not included.
